Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Therapy for?
Therapy is for anyone and everyone. Therapy can help support any issues in life where we may feel a block, uneasiness, or uncertainty. Some areas we can support with include: anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, identity, stress, suicidal thought, self harm, gender and sexuality, trauma and much more. Psychotherapy aims to reduce intensity, frequency and the length you experience negative emotions, and increase your understanding of self. In a consultation you can chat with your therapist about your needs, or explore your options.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
This is up to you! We believe you have the choice in your care. When you meet with your therapist you can discuss the frequency of sessions based on your needs (including income, insurance, time constraints, responsibilities and more). We believe in collaboration and choice for your treatment plan.
If able, we do suggest weekly or bi-weekly sessions to start and to adjust as needed from there. This helps you and your therapist get to know one another.
What Can I Expect in a First Session and Consultation?
We offer a free 15-minute consultation to connect with our therapists. In these calls, you can see if the therapist feels like a good fit and gain some insight into the therapeutic process.
Typically, a first session will discuss goals, what brought you to therapy, familial/friends, work/school environments, past therapy, and culture. In the first session, we like to learn about you as a person and have you learn about us! This session will usually focus on current skills and begin to develop tools to meet your goals. Think about a first session as an extension of the consultation.
What Happens if I Have Insurance?
We do not provide direct billing to insurance. After your session, you will receive a receipt for your records and/or to submit your claim. We are listed with a number of insurance providers so our information should be easy to access for a quick claim!

What is the Difference Between In-person and Virtual Sessions?
There is very little difference between the two options, the choice is up to you and based on preference. Our therapists are trained to offer psychotherapy in both formats. Some folks opt for in-person sessions due to privacy issues at home and want to be able to have a confidential and private space just for them. Others, prefer the flexibility and security virtual sessions bring. Where you can participate in sessions before, on lunch or after work without a commute, or leaving your home. Virtual sessions can also be done in a space where you feel secure and done on a time-sensitive schedule. Our therapists are happy to work with you to see what is a good fit.
How Honest Should I be?
We encourage our clients to be as honest as they can. Psychotherapy is confidential, and our therapists are bound to ethical and confidentiality requirements, which are reviewed in a first session. At Blooming Rose Therapy, we strive to build a trusting relationship, where you feel you can be your most honest and authentic self. Trust and relationship building take time, we understand this. We encourage our clients to build safety with your therapist as you share your story.
What do I need to Prepare?
Nothing! Our therapist will help bridge the gap in a first session to help guide conversation as you get to know one another. If you feel as though preparation is helpful, we encourage you to bring in any materials, thoughts and feelings that are important so we can meet you where you are at.
How do I Know if EMDR is the Right Fit?
